Ava Trahan

Teen Harvest Festival Queen

I'm Ava Trahan, the reigning Teen Miss Harvest Festival Queen. I am a 14-year-old freshman at Jennings High School, I'm excited to serve my community in this role. I'm involved in various clubs, including Beta Club, FBLA, FCCLA, FCA (Bible study group), and Coffee Club (book club), which help me grow as a leader and individual.

As an active 4-H member and Jr. Leader, I enjoy reading, cooking, and baking in my free time. This year, I'm looking forward to connecting with local farmers and learning about their hard work and sacrifices. My goal is to raise awareness about the importance of agriculture in our community and show appreciation for the people who make it all happen.

I'm eager to spend the next year learning about crops and harvest, and sharing my knowledge with others through my travels and public appearances. I'm grateful for this opportunity to serve and make a positive impact in my community!

History of Festivals in Pointe Coupee

The tradition of parish fairs and harvest festivals in Pointe Coupee Parish dates back to 1914 with the establishment of the Pointe Coupee Parish Fair. This annual event celebrated the region's agricultural bounty and local talents through exhibits, competitions, and entertainment. While the fair experienced interruptions, most notably during the influenza pandemic of 1918 and World War II, it remained a focal point of community life until 1964. The fair featured a diverse range of activities, including livestock displays, agricultural exhibits, student participation, and the popular horse parade, but it also operated under the segregation practices of the time.

After a decade-long hiatus, the fair tradition experienced a resurgence in 1975 with the introduction of the "Festival de la Pointe Coupee." This revival eventually led to the establishment of the "Harvest Festival on False River" in 2011, which sought to promote the parish's agricultural importance.

The Harvest Festival on False River has become a major community event. It boasts musical performances, arts and crafts vendors, agricultural displays, contests, and amusement rides. The festival has drawn significant crowds, solidifying its place as a cornerstone of the community's annual celebrations.

Organized primarily by the City of New Roads, the Harvest Festival has encountered challenges related to weather conditions and financial considerations. These challenges have prompted the city to explore potential partnerships to ensure the continued success and sustainability of this cherished tradition.
